Pharmaceutical Analysis is an important subject in B.Pharmacy that deals with the study of different methods and techniques used to identify, quantify, and determine the quality and purity of pharmaceutical drugs and formulations. It mainly focuses on ensuring that medicines are safe, effective, and meet the required standards set by regulatory authorities. The subject is broadly divided into two parts: ᧢ Qualitative Analysis (to identify what substances are present in a drug) ᧢ Quantitative Analysis (to measure how much of the active ingredient is present). Students learn various analytical techniques such as: ᧢ Titrimetric methods (Acid-base, Redox, Complexometric, etc.) ᧢ Gravimetric analysis ᧢ UV-Visible Spectroscopy ᧢ Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy ᧢ High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) ᧢ Gas Chromatography (GC) ᧢ and other modern instrumental methods. It also covers topics like validation of analytical methods, error analysis, statistical treatment of data, and quality control tests for raw materials, finished products, and stability studies of drugs.
