UNIT 1 : INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATION AND FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING

Basics of manufacturing systems ᎓ Concept and need for automation ᎓ Types and levels of automation ᎓ Introduction to Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) ᎓ Components of FMS: workstations, material handling, storage, control systems ᎓ Applications of automation in industries ᎓ Advantages and limitations of automation ᎓ Case study on automated manufacturing cell.

UNIT 2 : INDUSTRIAL SENSORS AND ACTUATORS

Introduction to sensors and actuators ᎓ Types of sensors: proximity, temperature, pressure, position, vision ᎓ Types of actuators: pneumatic, hydraulic, electric ᎓ Basic signal transmission and interfacing ᎓ Role of sensors and actuators in automated systems ᎓ Simple applications in manufacturing ᎓ Case study on sensor-based sorting system.

UNIT 3 : CONTROL SYSTEMS AND PLC BASICS

UNIT 4 : ROBOTICS AND MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS
