About Course

Space Mechanics is the study of the motion of spacecraft and celestial bodies under the influence of gravitational forces. It focuses on orbital motion, trajectory design, satellite dynamics, and the application of fundamental laws such as NewtonÙs Law of Gravitation and KeplerÙs Laws of Planetary Motion for space missions.

What Will You Learn?

  • 1. Understand the space environment and its effects such as radiation, plasma, micrometeoroids, and atmospheric drag on spacecraft and astronauts.
  • 2. Learn the fundamentals of orbital mechanics, including two-body and N-body problems, Kepler’s laws, and orbital elements.
  • 3. Analyze satellite injection and orbit transfer techniques such as Hohmann transfer, multi-burn transfers, and orbital perturbations.
  • 4.Study interplanetary trajectory design, including gravity assist, sphere of influence, and low-thrust propulsion paths.
  • 5. Gain knowledge of missile and re-entry trajectories, including gravity turn, atmospheric heating, and plasma blackout during re-entry.
