23MEO304 – Automation for Flexible Manufacturing

An automotive component manufacturing company produces multiple parts such as shafts, brackets, and housings using conventional machines and manual material handling. The company faces high setup time, inconsistent quality, increased labor dependency,and low flexibility. To remain competitive, the management plans to implement automation and a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). Based on the above case: Analyze the limitations of the existing manufacturing system. Apply appropriate automation concepts by selecting a suitable type and level of automation. Explain the major components of the proposed FMS and their roles.
