      Bridge course (article)

Before the final bell signaled the official start of summer, my transition into seventh grade began with a “bridge course”—a brief, vibrant window that turned out to be the highlight of the academic year. Unlike the high-pressure environment of regular exams, these days were designed to ease us into the new curriculum while keeping the atmosphere light, creative, and unexpectedly joyful.

      A Linguistic Playground

The heart of the bridge course lay in its focus on languages. For a few days, the heavy formulas of science and the complexities of mathematics were set aside, replaced by the rhythmic beauty of Tamil, Hindi, and English.

      • Tamil and Hindi: These classes weren’t about memorizing grammar rules; they were about stories and expression. We engaged in word games and storytelling sessions that made the languages feel alive rather than like subjects in a textbook.

      • English: We focused on creative communication, performing short skits and participating in debates that felt more like lively conversations with friends than formal assignments.

Without the looming shadow of other subjects, we could truly appreciate the nuances of how we speak and write. It was a refreshing change of pace that made the transition to a higher grade feel like an invitation rather than a chore.

      The Grand Finale: Happy Day

The bridge course culminated in what we all called “Happy Day.” If the previous days were about light learning, this final day was an absolute celebration of friendship and freedom.

“Happy Day was the perfect bridge between the structure of school and the total liberty of summer vacation.”

The schedule was thrown out the window. We spent the day:

      1. Roaming the Campus: For the first time, the hallways weren’t just paths to the next class; they were spaces for laughter and exploration. We moved from one corner of the school to the other, soaking in the sun and the excitement of the upcoming break.

      2. A Feast of Flavors: No Happy Day would be complete without the food. We shared snacks, indulged in treats, and ate until we couldn’t possibly manage another bite. It was a communal feast that turned classmates into a family.

      Conclusion

Looking back, those few days of the bridge course were essential. They allowed us to bond over the beauty of languages and celebrate our collective journey before parting ways for the summer. By the time I walked out of the school gates on that final afternoon, my stomach was full, my heart was light, and I was ready to embrace the summer, knowing that seventh grade started not with a challenge, but with a smile.
