Galaxies – The Beautiful Cities of Stars.

Galaxies are huge collections of stars, planets, gas, dust, and dark matter held together by gravity. They are like giant space cities where billions or even trillions of stars live. Our Earth is a part of the Milky Way Galaxy, which contains more than 100 billion stars. The Milky Way looks like a bright band in the night sky because we are viewing it from inside.

There are different types of galaxies. Spiral galaxies have curved arms and look like pinwheels. The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy. Elliptical galaxies are round or oval-shaped and contain mostly older stars. Irregular galaxies do not have a fixed shape and are often formed due to collisions between galaxies.

Scientists study galaxies to understand how the universe began and how it is changing. Galaxies can move and sometimes collide, forming new galaxies. The nearest large galaxy to us is the Andromeda Galaxy, and it is slowly moving closer to the Milky Way.

Galaxies remind us how vast and mysterious the universe is. Exploring them helps humans learn more about space and our place in it.
