Swimming
Swimming is a fantastic sport and life skill enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. It can be practiced for fun, fitness, or in high-energy competitions in a pool or open water. Unlike many other sports, swimming uses almost every muscle in the body while being very gentle on the joints because the water supports your weight.
In competitive swimming, athletes race to cross the pool as fast as possible using different styles, known as strokes. There are four main competitive strokes:
Freestyle: The fastest and most common stroke, where swimmers crawl forward through the water.
Backstroke: Similar to freestyle, but done while floating on the back.
Breaststroke: A slower, powerful stroke where the arms and legs move together like a frog.
Butterfly: A challenging, beautiful stroke where both arms lift over the water together while the legs kick like a dolphin.
Swimming is celebrated because it is both a great workout for your heart and an essential safety skill. Whether you are splashing in a backyard pool, racing for a gold medal, or cooling off on a hot summer day, swimming is a wonderful way to stay active and healthy.
