Product development versus design, types of design and redesign, modern production development process, scoping product development - S-curve , Understanding of customer needs- Gathering customer needs, organizing and prioritizing customer needs, establishing product function, FAST method.

CONCEPT GENERATION AND SELECTION

Information gathering, brain ball, C-sketch/6-3-5 method, morphological analysis, concept selection - introduction, technical feasibility, selection process, Pugh chart- Casestudies, measurement theory, numerical concept scoring DFMA, design for robustness.

CONCEPT EMBODIMENT AND MODELING OF PRODUCT METRICES

Refining geometry and layout, advanced methods -system modelling, mechanical embodiment principles, FMEA - linking fault states to system modelling, fault tree analysis- Casestudies - modelling of product metrics - introduction, product models.

DFE methods, life cycle assessment, weighted sum assessment method, techniques to reduce environmental impact - Disassembly, Recyclability, Remanufacturing regulations and standards.

Types of prototypes, use of prototypes, rapid prototyping - technique, classification and working principle, scale, dimensional analysis and similitude, physical model and experimentation - design of experiments, Creation of new model by innovating new ideas- Casestudy.
